Availability List For Friday June 9th

Posted 6/6/2017 12:57pm by Natalie Kujala.

Taylor writing today! There are a lot of big things happening around here this month. Our office is in the process of being renovated. Our growers are offering more spring and summer items. This weekend, Huntingdon (the town I live in) is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding. Natalie is getting married. Next week, I am also going to a few vendor events in the Washington Baltimore Beltway. Also, one of my sisters is graduating from nursing school next week. The excitement is just beginning, it seems. I am sure that many of our growers are experiencing many important life events and milestones as well, but they have so much happening now that they cannot always fill us in on their exhilarating events. All year round, but especially now, they are busy focusing on providing excellent and sustainable food for their families, their markets, and their coop! We appreciate your work with us, and are looking forward to speaking with you regarding the process of our comestibles. Hopefully, as we continue, we will be able to share more of our growers´ lives with you!

HIGHLIGHTS:

BABY FENNEL: Our growers are offering this with its leaves in three-pound cases. I recently learned that fennel is one of the three ingredients used to make absinthe. We would really love to see how you use this product on Instagram (especially me)! I would prefer to learn from our customers how to use fennel. I have no experience with fennel or its uses, so please help me!

HEAD LETTUCE: This cooler, cloudy spring weather is helping the lettuce explode! Many of these head lettuce cases are coming from Landisdale Farm. If you are interested in seeing a picture, please “lettuce” know.

BUNCHED GREENS: This week, we have a variety of bunched greens, including collard, kales and chards (oh my). We are offering these in both 12 bunch and 24 bunch cases. Many of these bunched greens are coming from the coop’s president, Mark of Help From Above Farm.

COSTATA ROMANESCO ZUCCHINI: One of our growers from Path Valley, Daniel of Sunny Ridge Farm, is sending this specialty heirloom variety of zucchini this week! This variety is generally 8 to 10 inches in length, with ridges along its skin. When sliced, it is star shaped, ooo-la-la! These will be limited in quantity, so order early!

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK.   PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
