Availability List For Friday September 29

Posted 9/26/2017 1:32pm by Natalie Kujala.

This week, I (Taylor here) am so glad for this wonderful weather, which has been so kind to me! I know I talk about this every time, so I will not diverge this time. I have restarted my swimming streak, and I have found a new swimming hole on the lake, which is very secluded! In the next few evenings, I am planning to go there for a swim and a campfire! This morning, I have been thinking about smores nonstop. As my brain transitions back to the office, it is exciting to note that our field consultant is spending the day here to do some research! It was a nice surprise to walk in this morning to see her here. I am sure on a day like today she would rather be outside with one of our growers, but I am glad to have a chance to ask her some questions myself. She has been working rigorously with our growers to help our coop improve and develop!

HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS:

KIWI BERRIES: This may be the last sales day in which kiwi berries are available, so get them while they are hot!

HOT PEPPERS: This week, we are offering a few varieties of hot peppers in 1-pound cases. In addition, we are offering jalapeno and poblano peppers in 10-pound cases. Please look over these!

PEARS GALORE: We have a delightful variety of pears this week, which could pear (I had to type it) with so many other items. Peachey’s Fruit Farm (our excellent fruit grower) sends the pears, especially, to us when they are hard. There is an excellent section on the Oregon State University Agriculture Extension website about handling and ripening pears.

BROCCOLI REMINDER: Again, many of our growers’ broccoli patches have hit the ground running. The broccoli is not running, but I am sure our growers are! Please do not shy away from ordering as much broccoli as possible.

CARDOONS: These do take so much time to prepare, but we hope you are up for the challenge. We would love to see how you use these on Instagram! It would be wonderful to see the whole process in your kitchens. Cardoons are limited this week, so order early!

ORANGE HABANADA PEPPER (heatless): These beauties are new to our list in the past week or so. Deb Brubaker of Village Acres Farm, a very experienced grower in Mifflintown, PA, wants to trial selling these through the coop. The habanada pepper is a heatless habanero variety. Habanada peppers have a fruity and floral flavor. These may win against the yummy snack peppers as my new favorite movie-watching snack.

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK.   PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
