Availability List For Friday September 8

Posted 9/5/2017 12:55pm by Natalie Kujala.

Salutations from Taylor today! I hope you all had a nice Labor Day weekend. At least one of our growers took the day off yesterday, but I believe most were still tending their fields and crops. I will ask that you take your time looking at our list.  We still have many wonderful summer items, along with some fun fall produce! Speaking of summer and fall, you know I must mention the lake. I did go swimming yesterday, but it was a tad too cold for me. My friend and lake companion, who also loves Lake Raystown, could not help himself, so he recited “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost to mark (possibly) the last day of summer. I am still holding out for a few more summer days in September.

HIGHLIGHTS and LOWLIGHTS:

PEA SHOOTS: The pea shoots are not loving the cool weather quite as much as our other greens. For Friday’s delivery, we will likely not have any pea shoots available. They should be back on track for next week though.

POTATOES: We have limited supplies of potatoes, especially the red and blue, right now. If you would like some now, please let us know as soon as you can. The gold potatoes are going strong this week, along with the sweet potatoes and fingerlings!

SPECIALTY EGGPLANTS: The specialty 12-pound cases are limited this week. They cannot come inside to watch a movie when it is rainy and cloudy outside. It may be time to stock up on these beauties.

HOT PEPPERS: How spicy is too spicy? We would love to see how you use these on Instagram. I cannot get enough of these! With these cooler nights, I have started to make soups in the crock-pot. This year, I have started adding hot peppers and I love the kick it gives my soup!

GREENS: These cools nights are doing wonders for our greens. The lettuce mixes in particular are exploding. Our sweet and spicy salad mix (in 1.5 and 5-pound cases) desires to be in your coolers, storefronts, kitchens, and bellies! Reminder: if you would like 20+ pounds, please let us know as soon as possible! We can try to work a little deal magic for you.

SUNRISE SALAD MIX:  Again, Sunrise Salad Mix is new to our list, which contains a little bit of everything. It bears the name of the farm from which it originates. This mix is the base of my salad for lunch! If you would like more details on the specifics of this mix, just ask!

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK. PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
