For Friday February 17th
Taylor was mentioning the other day that we have finally hit the 10 hours of daylight mark again. She was hoping that Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction on Groundhog Day was miscalculated, and that spring will in fact come early this year. We would certainly appreciate that, as more sunlight and warmer weather would help these herbs and greens that everyone is so anxious to have grow faster. I personally wouldn’t mind a little more of each either. I’m looking forward to running on trails again instead of the treadmill.
SWEET POTATOES: I’m bringing back my personal favorite to the coversheet. Sweeeeet potatoes! It’s true we still have lots of regular sweet potatoes, but we also have some specialty options- deep purple, Hernandez, Japanese- and also finger-sweets. Or, if you’re willing to overlook some surface blemishes or irregular shapes, we have a great supply of #2s, and for a great price at that.
PARSNIPS: Winter is the time for parsnips. Add these to your stews, soups, or roasted veggie dishes for a sweet, nutty flavor.
RADISHES: We have purple, we have black Spanish, we have watermelon, green meat, mixed variety, daikon, purple daikon, and red. Whew! What a list. All shapes and sizes, all colors and tastes. You want radishes, we’ve got ‘em!
GOLD BEETS: We got an unexpected offer of gold beets from New Morning Farm. Beets in general are quite limited for us this year, and gold beets in particular seemed to have vanished from our list much quicker than we anticipated. We aren’t sure how many more gold beets we can expect, so I’d suggest ordering them now if you want them!
NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK. PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
