Produce List for Friday November 17th

Posted 11/14/2017 1:03pm by Natalie Kujala.

Taylor is coming through the cover letter today! I have decorative gourds all over my desk. I really dislike that it gets dark so early, so I like decorating my space to put a smile on my face. In my apartment, I have holiday lights around the ceiling in my bedroom and the living room. I have one of those popular wine bottles, with holiday light inside of it, in my bathroom. Also, I have candles all over the place, which I light right when I get home. This darkness is so not pleasing. Anyways, back to Tuscarora. Lately, we have had a few people ask if all of our product is organic. The answer is yes. All of our growers are certified organic by a third party organization, which means all of our products are certified organic.

THANKSGIVING SCHEDULE: We will be open next Monday through Wednesday (11/20 to 11/22), but will be closed Thursday and Friday next week (11/23 and 11/24). This means we will not be delivering next Friday (11/24). Please stock up for Thanksgiving this Friday or next Tuesday! The list for Tuesday (11/28) will be sent out on Tuesday of next week, and resent on Friday.

HIGHLIGHTS:

GREENS LULL: This past weekend, we had temperatures nearing the single digits. Due to the last few nights of freezing temperatures, we are experiencing a lull in bunched lacinato, green romaine lettuce, and some salad greens mixes. As many of our growers plant fall and winter greens in their greenhouses, tunnels, and hoop houses, salad mixes will return, and hopefully very soon.

BABY LEEKS: These babies are no friend to a sailor. What vegetable is a sailor’s worst enemy? This is my favorite joke. Everyone at TOG has heard me tell this too many times…The answer is a leek (how silly).

TURNIP ROOTS: Purple top turnips are spicy and peppery, while sweet white turnips are on the sweeter side. Turnips are supposedly the oldest root crop, ooo-la-la, but it seems that they often go overlooked. Show your support for these enduring veggies by purchasing a case, or 3!

CITRUS UPDATE: We sold out of Meyer lemons and Hamlin oranges earlier than we thought, but we do have grapefruit available for sale! After Thanksgiving, we will bring in more lemons and oranges to share with you! If you’re looking for 5+ cases of oranges or lemons, let us know so we can bring in what you need.

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK. PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
